Jason Murphy has been with Schmeiser, Olsen & Watts for over 17 years, earning the trust of in-house patent counsel and corporate legal departments around the world. His practice focuses on patent prosecution and portfolio development for multinational corporations and publicly traded U.S. companies, while also providing strategic guidance to startups, established companies with focused portfolios, and individual inventors.
Foreign law firms across China, Europe, Korea, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, India, and the Middle East regularly rely on Jason to secure U.S. patent protection for their clients. Through these relationships, he also helps domestic clients execute coordinated foreign filing strategies that protect their technologies on a global scale.
In 2023, Jason relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he continued serving clients remotely while laying the groundwork for the firm’s regional expansion. In October 2025, he led the opening of Schmeiser Olsen’s Raleigh office, extending the firm’s national presence into the Research Triangle—one of the country’s most active centers for technology and life-science innovation.

He has also served as lead and backup counsel in Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings and other post-grant matters before the USPTO, including ex parte and inter partes reexaminations and reissue applications. Jason regularly prepares infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions, and advises corporate clients on due diligence strategies for acquisitions, enforcement, and defense. His broader IP practice includes portfolio management, IP strategy, and licensing transactions involving key technology assets.
