Lori F. Cuomo is a Senior Patent Attorney at Schmeiser Olsen, based in Washington, D.C., where she advises clients on patent, trademark, and copyright matters, as well as licensing, international intellectual property strategy, and litigation support. Her practice spans a broad range of advanced technologies, including biotechnology, mechanical systems, clean energy, nanotechnology, chemical engineering, materials processing, and semiconductor fabrication. 

Lori brings extensive experience across private practice, in-house counsel roles, and government service, enabling her to deliver comprehensive and practical intellectual property strategies tailored to each client’s technical and business objectives. 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Lori previously served as Of Counsel at a Washington, D.C.-area law boutique, where her practice focused on patent prosecution and the preparation of opinions relating to non-infringement and patent invalidity. 

Before entering private practice, Lori worked as a patent attorney for Mobil Oil Corporation, where she handled U.S. and international patent procurement, opinion work, client counseling, and agreement drafting across a wide range of inorganic and organic chemical technologies. Her work included oil field and enhanced recovery operations, catalyst technologies, lubricants, films, and polymers. 

Earlier in her career, Lori served as an Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where she examined applications in various technical fields, including gas purification systems and inorganic silicon compounds.
