Peter M. Cuomo is a Patent Agent at Schmeiser Olsen, based in the firm’s Mesa, Arizona office. He brings more than four decades of experience in patent examination and prosecution, helping clients secure strong, defensible intellectual property protection across a broad range of mechanical technologies. 

With extensive knowledge of USPTO procedures and examination practices, Peter provides clients with strategic insight into patent preparation, prosecution, and portfolio development, drawing on his deep technical and regulatory background. 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Before joining Schmeiser Olsen, Peter spent more than 40 years at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including over 30 years as a Supervisory Patent Examiner. During his tenure, he examined patent applications across a wide variety of mechanical art units, including pumps, joints and connections, fences, mechanical projectors, beds, locks, chairs, and seating systems. 

In addition to his examination work, Peter served as a Patent Academy Instructor and Lecturer, training and mentoring patent examiners and contributing to the professional development of USPTO staff. His decades of experience provide clients with invaluable insight into patent examination strategy and best practices.
